The Wyoming Democratic Party is very pleased to welcome Senator Saundra Meyer and Senator James Elliot to the Wyoming Senate. The following is taken from a press release by the LSO:
Following the administration of the oaths of office, legislators,
legislative staff, family and friends welcomed Senators Meyer and Elliott to
the Wyoming Legislature. Senator Elliott addressed the well-wishers during
the ceremony stating that he is thankful for his appointment and looks
forward to serving the people of Wyoming, noting, "I am really humbled by
this opportunity to represent the constituents of both Carbon and Albany
Counties but one thing that I made as a vow to myself was that if I take on
a task, I'm going to give it everything I've got."
Meyer was also thankful to have the opportunity to serve in the both the
House and the Senate by saying "I really enjoyed my tenure in the House of
Representatives and as Minority Floor leader. It was a great honor and a
privilege and it is a great honor and a privilege to represent the
constituents in Senate District 15."
Meyer served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 2001-2004 and was
then re-elected in 2007. She was serving as the current Minority Floor
Leader in the House and is a speech pathologist. Hines has appointed Meyer
to the Senate Judiciary and Travel, Recreation, Wildlife
and Cultural Resources Committees.
Elliott graduated from the Duke University of Law and is a semi-retired
attorney, assisting his son with their family's law office in Arvada, Colo.
He is also a former Carbon County Commissioner. Elliott has been appointed
to the Senate Agriculture, State and Public Lands and Water Resources
Committee and the Select Water Committee.
The Uinta County Commissioners appointed Meyer to fill the vacant Senate
District 15 seat formerly held by Ken Decaria and Elliott was appointed by
the Albany and Carbon County Commissioners to fill Senator Bill Vasey's
Senate District 11 seat.
It is wonderful to have both Senators on board and we look forward to the good work they will do during the 2010 legislative session.
