Natrona County Commission names Hales new HD 36 representative

CASPER - Casper area real estate agent Mary Hales has been named Wyoming's newest state representative.

The Natrona County Commission on Monday (July 9) appointed Hales to the vacant House District 36 seat from a pool of three finalists that had been selected by the Democratic precinct committee members of the district.

Wyoming Democratic Party Chairman John Millin said the people of HD 36 will be well represented by their new House member.

"Congratulations to Rep. Hales on her new position," Millin said. "Mary will bring a thoughtful voice and a strong background of experience in Wyoming politics to the Legislature."

A prior commitment prevented Hales from attending Monday's county commission meeting. Joan Bangen, who attended the meeting in Hales' stead, told the commission that Hales will focus on "what's the impact on people" when making decisions as a legislator.

Hales was recently re-elected as secretary of the Wyoming Democratic Party, and she is also a precinct committeewoman.

Millin thanked all seven Democrats who applied for the House seat, which came open last month with the resignation of Rep. Liz Gentile, D-Evansville.

"We clearly have several people in the area of Evansville and east Casper who would make fine legislators, and I urge them to stay involved in public affairs and look for other ways to serve their community," Millin said.
