Democrats name Wheeler, Hales and Miller as finalists for House District 36

Natrona County Commission will appoint one to fill unexpired House term of former Rep. Liz Gentile

CASPER - The Democratic precinct committee men and women of state House District 36 have selected Gretchen Wheeler, Mary Hales and Penny Miller as the three finalists to fill the legislative vacancy left by the resignation of Rep. Liz Gentile.

Wyoming Democratic Party Chairman John Millin plans to submit the names to the Natrona County commissioners on Tuesday, July 3, according to party spokesman Bill Luckett. The commissioners will then have five days to appoint one of the three to replace Gentile in the state House.

Luckett said the precinct committee members worked diligently Monday night (July 2) to choose three finalists from among the seven candidates who had applied for the job of representing the people of HD 36, which includes Evansville, parts of east Casper and a sliver of eastern rural Natrona County.

"We were pleased with the qualities of the people who applied for the position, and we are very pleased with the three candidates whose names we will submit to the county commission," Luckett said. "Any of these three people would make a fine state representative, and the residents of House District 36 should rest assured that no matter which one the commission chooses, they will be well represented by their new legislator."

Natrona County Commissioner Terry Wingerter told local Democrats last week that the commission plans to meet at 1 p.m. Monday, July 9, for the purpose of filling the HD 36 vacancy.
