FAQs
2006 Campaign
What is the deadline for filing for a state office?
Candidates for for any county, state or federal office must file between May 18, 2006 and June 2, 2006. Candidates for county offices file their statement of candidacy at the local county clerk's office. Candidates for state legislature, statewide office, and federal office must file during this period with the Secretary of State. To comply with federal law, candidates for federal office may also need to file statements of candidacy and campaign finance reports with the Federal Election Commission and the Secretary of the Senate. For help with the filing process, please contact the state party office at 800-729-3367.
Does the party think we can take congress back in 2006?
Across the country, there will be a number of great opportunities to gain seats in the US House and Senate in the 2006. One of the best opportunities in the US House may be right here in Wyoming. Despite her significant incumbency, Rep. Barbara Cubin was held to her narrowest margin of re-election in 2004. Despite outspending her opponent nearly 3- to-1, Rep. Cubin lost three significant counties in 2004. The state party is already working hard to challenge Ms. Cubin and lay the foundations of a successful Congressional campaign. Wyoming can play a significant role in taking back Congress in 2006.
What will the party do to help the Governor to win re-election in 2006 and win more seats in the Wyoming state legislature?
The state party is already working to help the Governor win re-election should he seek a second term. Those efforts include an aggressive, statewide grassroots organization plan that is already being implemented; a state-of-the-art voter file that is unmatched in Wyoming; comprehensive outreach and fundraising programs that will assist the state party, local paties, and candidates at every level on the ticket; and early candidate recruitment for state legislative offices.
Conventions
When are the 2006 county conventions?
County chairs have until February 15, 2006 to file the call for their respective county conventions. As those notices are received, the details will be posted on the calendar at www.wyomingdemocrats.com.
General
Greetings, I am considering changing party affiliation to the Democrats so I can vote in the Wyoming caucus on March 8th. What do I need to do for this to happen??
You can change your voter registration at your county clerk's office at your county courthouse. To participate in the March 8, 2008, Wyoming Democratic county caucuses, a person must be registered as a Democrat in his or her county by 15 days before the caucus date, or by Feb. 22.
I am registered as a WY democrat and I would like to have a voice in my county convention in March, but I am at college this spring. Is there a caucus equivalent to an absentee ballot?
Sorry, but you must be present to participate in Wyoming's presidential preference caucuses, which will be held in each of Wyoming's 23 counties on March 8.
What is the DATE of the DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY OR CAUCUS FOR 2008?
The 2008 Wyoming Democratic Party county presidential preference caucuses and county conventions will take place March 8, 2008. We will post the locations and times for each county on our Website as we get closer to that date and as each county finalizes the schedule for its caucus and convention.
How did a Democrat get elected Governor in Wyoming? Is it common for Democrats to win races in Wyoming?
Wyoming has frequently elected Democrats to
serve as the state's executive. In fact,
three of the state's four most recent governors
(Ed Herschler, Mike Sullivan, and Dave
Freudenthal) have been Democrats.
Gov. Dave was successful in his 2002 campaign,
because he genuinely cares about the
people in our state. The Governor understands
Wyoming. He grew up in Thermopolis.
He and his family have lived in Cheyenne for
more than twenty years. In that time, he
worked as the US Attorney for Wyoming and in
private practice. So when Gov. Dave met
with Wyoming voters on their front porches in
2002, he understood their concerns and
shared their hopes for the state's future.
The Governor’s vision for Wyoming includes a
state that values and nurtures family and
community; a state with an enhanced economic
base, thriving businesses, community
development and protection for our social and
natural environment; a state with
natural resources developed in a safe and clean
manner; a state whose residents have
access to the latest and most productive
technology; a state where high-quality
education effectively prepares the state’s
youth for a meaningful and challenging
future; and a state where government services
are delivered using financial resources
in an effective and efficient manner.
Governor Freudenthal believes in personal
responsibility, professionalism, high ethics
and honesty, requiring accountability,
efficiency and respect. The role of the
governor’s office is to provide opportunity,
through parternerships, to meet the needs
of Wyoming, today and tomorrow.
How many Democrats voted in the 2004 elections?
62,385 Democrats voted in the 2004 General Election, and 59,265 voted in the primary.
