Jefferson-Jackson Dinner with keynote speaker Governor Tim
Kaine
Click here to buy tickets online. The Jefferson-Jackson Dinner is not only the Arlington Democrats' premier fundraiser of the year, but also gives Arlington Democrats an opportunity to recognize and honor those who have worked so hard over the past year and to mingle with friends, colleagues, and elected officials. 2008 is a historic year for Arlington County, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the United States. With your help we can ensure that Virginia goes BLUE in a Presidential race for the first time since 1964! The JJ Committee is excited to announce that Virginia Governor Tim Kaine will be this year's Keynote speaker. Since his election in 2005, Governor Kaine has been a strong advocate for and a leader on issues important to Arlington Democrats and Democrats across the Commonwealth of Virginia, including Transportation, Education, Protecting the Environment, and securing funding for the Dulles rail extension. Governor Kaine has also played a key role for the Democratic National Committee, giving the official Democatic response to the 2006 State of the Union address. Tickets for the Arlington JJ Dinner are $125 for individuals, $115 for Roosevelt Society members, and $100 for Young Democrats. For $250, you can purchase a VIP ticket, which includes a private reception with Governor Kaine and honored guests in addition to the dinner. Tables of 10 also are available for $1,500 and include two VIP tickets to the reception with Governor Kaine and one half-page ad in the program.

Arlington Dems Aim To Provide Obama Margin!
If Barack Obama's road to the White House is to run through Virginia, Arlington Democrats have formulated a plan to provide his margin of victory. Party officials are aiming to give Obama a 60,000-plus-vote margin of victory in the county in November, which, they hope, will help him become the first Democrat to win the commonwealth's electoral votes since Lyndon Johnson's 1964 landslide. “This is not a pipe dream - this is going to happen,” Arlington County Democratic Committee chairman Peter Rousselot said at the party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner, held July 11 at the Westin Arlington Gateway.

Mark Warner for Senate!
There's still plenty of time before the U.S. Senate race between Democrat Mark Warner and Republican Jim Gilmore is over. But why wait: This one is such a one-sided affair that it should be over before it begins. As a result, the Sun Gazette comes out of the gate early in endorsing Mark Warner for the seat.

A New Political Geography
When Sen. Barack Obama chose the Nissan Pavilion in the outer suburbs of Northern Virginia to kick off his general-election campaign, one of the 10,000 supporters there was David Bruzas, who recently moved to the fastest-growing part of a state that is moving rapidly away from its Republican past.
