Creigh Deeds wins throughout Virginia
The statewide primary turned out to be a jawdropper as Creigh Deeds won the gubernatorial nomination in a runaway despite being written off by most analysts just a few weeks earlier.Most polls had shown Deeds in third place in the three-man race for many months. But, as The Voice noted a few months ago, first place in most of those polls went to “Undecided.” In the last few weeks, when Democrats had to make up their minds, they broke overwhelmingly for Deeds—including in Arlington, where most of the elected officials who supported a candidate had endorsed Brian Moran from neighboring Alexandria. A clear exception was Mary Margaret Whipple, who had vocally supported Deeds, a fellow state senator, since the beginning of the race.
