Request and vote an Absentee/Early Voting Ballot

Any registered voter in Ohio may request and cast an absentee/early voting ballot; you do not need to state a reason to vote absentee or why you are voting early.  You may vote absentee/early by mail or in person at the Erie County Board of Elections office.  You may call and request an absentee/early voting application be mailed to you, you may download an application from the Erie County Board of Elections website or you may simply send a letter to the Erie County Board of Elections with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your signature
  • The address at which you are registered to vote
  • Your date of birth
  • One of the following:
    • Your driver’s license number; or
    • The last four digits of your Social Security number; or
    • A copy of your current and valid identification (See Voter Identification Requirements for details)
  • A statement identifying the election you are requesting absentee/early voting ballot for – example:  General Election, Primary Election or Special Election
  • A statement that you are a qualified elector
  • If the request is for a primary election ballot, your Political Party affiliation (if you omit this, you will be mailed an issues-only ballot)
  • The address to which you want your ballot mailed

If you wish to vote absentee/early by mail, the Erie County Board of Elections must receive your application by noon on the Saturday before the election.  Absentee/Early voting ballots can be mailed thirty-five (35) days before an election – so if you wish to vote absentee/early by mail, request your ballot early.  You may vote in person at the Erie County Board of Elections from thirty-five (35) days before an election until the day before the election.  Once you have received your absentee/early voting ballot and voted, it must be returned in person or by mail by 7:30 pm on Election Day in order to be counted.
