Ferrell elected President of Erie County Commission

January 9, 2007

Commissioner Tom Ferrell Jr. was elected by a 3-0 vote to become President of the Erie County Commission.  Tom has been a member of the Erie County Commissioners since 1988.  With the election of Bill Monaghan, Democrats now have the majority on the Erie County Commission.

Judge McGookey elected Vice President of CPJA

December 2006

Erie County Probate Judge Bev McGookey has been elected Vice President of the County Probate Judges Association.  In June 2007, Judge McGookey will ascend as President of the CPJA and will begin a two-year term.

Sheriff Lyons elected as BSSA Treasurer

December 2006

Once again, the professionalism of Erie County Sheriff Terry M. Lyons has been recognized by the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association.  Sheriff Lyons was elected as Treasurer of the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association.  With this election, Sheriff Lyons will eventually become president of the Association in four (4) years.

Grubbe presented Distinguished Service Award

Ohio Democratic Party Chair Chris Redfern presented a Distinguished Service Award to Erie County Chair Amy F. Grubbe.  The award was presented in recognition of devoted service as Erie County Democratic Party Chair, the many successes in 2006 and to continued service to the Ohio Democratic Party.

 

County Treasurer Fantozz elected Secretary of State Association

Sandusky Register - Erie County Treasurer Jo Dee Fantozz was elected the secretary of the County Treasurers Association of Ohio.  Jo Dee has been Erie County Treasurer since 2001.  Congratulations Jo Dee!

Erie County Delegates to 2006 ODP State Convention

September 13, 2006

The 2006 Ohio Democratic Party State Convention is scheduled for Saturday, September 16 at the western campus of Cuyahoga Community College in Parma.  Delegates representing Erie County include:

  • Brett Fuqua, Sr., Sandusky
  • Kurt Landefeld, Huron
  • Lisa Cherry Dewey, Huron
  • Anne Lamb, Sandusky
  • Jean Miller, Castalia

Margaret M. Murray, State Central Committeewoman - 2nd District, and Amy F. Grubbe, Chair of the Erie County Democratic Party, also will attend as delegates.  Statewide Democratic candidates will be present.  Special guest speaker will be Congressman Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Caucus Committee. 

 

Grubbe appointed to ODP's Executive Committee

June 13, 2006 - Ohio Democratic Party, Columbus, OH

Ohio Democratic Party Chair Chris Redfern announced the appointment of Erie County Democratic Party Chair Amy F. Grubbe to the ODP's Executive Committee.  As the governing body of the Ohio Democratic Party, Grubbe will be one of just over 130 Executive Committee members statewide "who will help set the course and guide our direction", stated Redfern, as Democrats work together toward victory in November 2006 and beyond in 2008.  Members of the ODP State Executive Committee are appointed to two-year terms, attend quarterly meetings and provide advice and counsel to the ODP Chair and others within the Democratic Party. 

"I am honored to be appointed to represent Erie County Democrats at the state level during this exciting time not only for Democrats locally, but statewide and nationally.  I am looking forward to being a strong advocate -- along with our local elected State Central Committeewoman Margaret Murray and House Representative/ODP Chair Chris Redfern --for all Erie County Democrats as we turn around Ohio in 2006 and to ensure Ohioans are ready for Election 2008."

On Thursday, June 8, 2006, the following were elected Party officers for a four-year term - 2006-2010:

  • Deborah D. McDowell, Treasurer
  • Joanne M. Harris, Secretary

 

Sheriff Lyons appointed as law enforcement advisor

May 14, 2006

Earlier this month, Congressman Ted Strickland's campaign asked Erie County Sheriff Terry Lyons to serve as one of Strickland's law enforcement policy advisors.  Sheriff Lyons has accepted this important role in Strickland's campaign.

Erie County Sheriff Lyons Earns Recognition

According to the Sandusky Register, Erie County Sheriff Terry Lyons was recognized at the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association Annual Conference in Delaware, Ohio.  Lyons was also elected by fellow sheriffs to the office of executive secretary of the BSSA.
