MESSAGE FROM NEW CHAIR

Fellow Democrats

The Defiance County Democratic Central and Executive Committees held their reorganizational meetings on Tuesday April 1. At that meeting I was elected county chairman and the following individuals were elected to these posts: Dave Plant-Central Committee Chairman, Howard Tropepe-Central Committee Vice Chairman, Jo Diehl- Central Committee Secretary, Randy Wilde- Treasurer, Charlie Gray- Executive Committee Vice Chairman and Norma Jean Appel- Executive Committee Secretary.
It is my belief that we must fundamentally change the way we operate as a party in this county. It must be our primary focus to build the party, recruit, develop and promote candidates. This can be achieved if we establish realistic goals and timeframes in which to complete each task. We have made a big improvement by filling over 30 of the precinct seats for the first time in over a decade. This renewed interests by many individuals will allow us to increase the number of at large seats on the executive board to 18 or 19, which will give us an executive board of over fifty individuals. (Remember many hands make light work). With this many new helpers we can get more jobs done without overtaxing our members.
I think we should make it a goal to have competitive candidates in every local election within the next two election cycles and to raise $10,000 a year in order to get these candidates elected and to build a local networking system to assist these candidates. Lofty, but achievable goals, if we all work together.
Also, it has been a practice of the party to make the county chair a member of the county elections board, I have no interest in that position as I am a candidate for office and cannot serve on the board while I am a candidate and if elected county prosecutor, I believe it would be a conflict of interest to hold that position. Vic Vogel does a good on the board and I hope that he continues in that position.
Finally, since we have more at large seats available this year, I extend an invitation to any Democrat who wants to help the party by filling these positions, if interested, email me or call me at my office 419-782-0488 or at home 419-782-6957 or call any member of the executive committee and have them forward your interest onto me. Also if you just want to help out but don’t really want to be on the board give me a call and let me know what you might be interested in doing and we will try to find something you can do to help out the Party. Or let me know if you have any questions or comments. This is an exciting time for all Democrats and with all of us working together we can continue to build our party in this county. I look forward to working with all of you.

Democratically Yours
Tim Holtsberry

This holiday isn't this holiday without Dave Alvin: His friends and sometimes Knitters bandmates in X have a great version of it, too, but it's Dave's song, so he gets the honors of the video. That song and mcmom's potato salad are pretty much my only requirements for this holiday, since I...
