2006 Kennedy-Truman Dinner and Golden Donkey Award Ceremony Showcases Statewide, Local Candidates and Grassroots Activists

 “It’s the best one…ever!!!!”  That’s how Clermont County Democratic Central Committee Chair Charlotte Davidson described the 39th Kennedy-Truman Dinner. 

The annual fundraising event was held Saturday, April 15th at the Campbell Country Reception Center in Amelia.  Nearly 180 people packed the auditorium to hear statewide candidates, local candidates and all 5 candidates vying for the Democrat’s nod in the Ohio 2nd Congressional District race.

Candidates

Both Ohio Congressman and candidate for the U.S. Senate Sherrod Brown and Keynote speaker, Jennifer Brunner brought the room to its feet with comments and positions on issues ranging from ethics to the war in Iraq.  Both Congressman Brown and Ms. Brunner, a candidate for Ohio Secretary of State are unopposed in the May 2nd primary and will represent the Democratic in the November general election.

State Treasurer candidate Richard Cordray and Mark Dann, candidate for Ohio Attorney General made appearances, rounding out the state-wide contenders.

Also appearing was newcomer Will Newby, candidate for the Ohio House of Representatives 66th District.

Clermont County candidates on-hand included, Gregg Conrad, candidate for Clermont County Auditor along with Common Please Court candidates Ken Zuk and Ron Mason.

Jim Parker, Jeff Sinnard, Gaby Downey, Dr. Victoria Wulsin and Thor Jacobs each took their turn at the microphone, touting their qualifications to serve in Congress, representing Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District.  Each candidate got rousing cheers from the crowd and spent time one-on-one with anyone with questions.

Living Legend Award

Judge Charles W. Jackson became the first recipient of this award, designed to honor exceptional Clermont County Democrats with long histories of devotion to party ideals and values.

 Grass Roots

Fran Eckerson – West Clermont Democrats

Nancy Barton – West Clermont Democrats

Young Dems – Glen Este High School

Golden Donkey

Constance Lighthall – Web Site Coordinator/Quin-T/State Central Committee Candidate.  The Golden Donkey is awarded to the Clermont County Democrat who distinguishes her/himself throughout the year as a stand-out leader, pursuing the goals of the Party with vigor and undeniable resolve.
