Chair's Corner

From and to Lincoln County Democrats....

MARIA QUINTANA Chair, Democratic Party of L. C.  -- July 11, 2009

 Dear Fellow Democrats –

I would like to make sure that you have re-registered to vote if you have moved or if your address has in any way been changed by the County.  Hundreds of Lincoln County voters have been labeled “Inactive” on the County Voter Registration List” and I am hopeful that we can get as many Democrats informed of this as soon as possible.

This is what I understand happened:  The County is always trying to keep their voter list updated.  At the time of the Hospital Mil-Levy mail-in vote, many ballots were returned as undeliverable.  Of these, anyone who had not updated their mailing address were labeled “Inactive”.  It does not mean you will be unable to vote at the next election ... but your name will be tagged and you may have to fill out a re-registration form in order to vote.

If a registered voter on the “inactive” list does not re-register with their current information in at least a four year time period, he or she will be removed from the Voter Registration List at the next purge, and then will not be able to vote.

The only way to change from “Inactive” to “Active” is to fill out a new Voter Registration Form.  There are many individuals throughout Lincoln County who have registration forms and are able to register voters.  Also, you can always re-register at the County Clerk’s office in Carrizozo.  (If you are a VRA, Voter Registration Agent, or precinct captain, please contact me so I can produce a list of voters who may be in this situation.)

We will make a concerted effort to reach out and locate as many Democrats as we can.

As the County Chair, I get updates to the voter registration list each month.  Along with the precinct captains, we will try to locate individuals who need to re-register.  If you would like to assist in this matter please contact your precinct captain as listed below or contact me.  We would appreciate any help that you can provide.
