MDP Chair Michael Cryor Joins Bipartisan Push to Register Voters

Maryland Voter Registration Highest in State’s History

(New 2008 Statistics Below)

Oct. 14 Deadline Looms for Over One Million Unregistered Eligible “Voters”

A statement from Michael Cryor, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party:

“Every election is important. But 2008 may well be the most historic and significant election of our lifetime. We are seeing record breaking voter registration numbers in Maryland so far this year. However, we also know there are far too many people sitting on the sidelines who will find themselves without the right to cast their vote if they are not registered by October 14, 2008.

We join with our friends and colleagues from other parties and within the nonpartisan community and government to say we will do our part to protect all voters’ rights. No voter, once registered, shall be denied their right to vote by intimidation or other means. But the most significant voter suppression problem we must overcome is that which is self imposed. You can’t vote if you don’t register to vote and we have only seven days left.

As Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party I am urging all Maryland citizens - regardless of party affiliation or political inclination – to take this opportunity to be a part of history. Please register now and vote on Election Day, November 4.”
