Fairgoers Split on 2008 Slots Referendum
Montgomery County Agricultural 2008 fairgoers split on the slots referendum. 37% favored the amendment, 56% opposed the amendment and 7% said they had not made up their mind yet.
The Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee tested fairgoers views on the 2008 slots referendum from August 9-16, 2008. Fairgoers were invited to the Democratic Tent to mark a straw ballot favoring, opposing or not having made up their mind yet.
Since fairgoers were invited to mark the ballot without checking if they were registered Montgomery County Democrats, even registered at all or Montgomery County residents; the vote may or may not have reflected the views of Montgomery County Democrats. Of interest was the low vote for ‘had not made up their mind yet’ which was even lower as the week progressed.
The Montgomery County Democratic Party will
consider taking a position on the 2008 slots
referendum in September 2008. The slots straw
vote does not prejudge the Party’s position on
the referendum.
