Common Sense and the Law Prevail

“…there is ultimately no merit to the Plaintiffs’ arguments.”

Annapolis, MD – After weeks of media hype and unsubstantiated allegations, Carroll County Circuit Court Judge Thomas F. Stansfield – appointed to the court in 2004 by a Republican Governor - has dismissed the frivolous and politically motivated lawsuit known as MICHAEL D SMIGIEL, Sr, et al vs. PETER FRANCHOT, et al. The order included these simple and direct words: “…there is ultimately no merit to the Plaintiffs’ arguments.”

A statement from Michael Cryor, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party

“After all the wild-eyed allegations and media-hype nobody is surprised by this unambiguous decision out of Carroll County.

Certain members of the minority party have engaged in a sorry and sordid abuse of the judicial system for the sake of partisan politics and they owe the taxpayers of Maryland more than an apology.  Explaining this waste of time and taxpayer resources is now their responsibility.

We applaud the Carroll County Circuit Court judge for tossing this lawsuit where it belongs. The real leaders on both sides of the aisle in Annapolis can proceed with doing the people’s business now that this manipulation of Maryland’s court system has ended.”
