Cao, Boustany, and Cassidy’s Silence on GOP’s Offensive Comments on Hurricane Katrina is Deafening

Louisiana’s Republican Congressmen have remained silent on their colleague’s declaration on the House Floor yesterday that Hurricane Katrina was not an emergency.

“If Congressmen Cao, Boustany, and Cassidy don’t think that Hurricane Katrina was an emergency, perhaps they can tell us what is,” said Chris Whittington, Chairman of the Louisiana Democratic Party.  “Their indifference to these offensive comments show how out of touch they are with the challenges facing our communities.”

GOP Representative Marsha Blackburn said yesterday, “We’re not going to cry ‘emergency’ every time we have a Katrina, every time we have a tsunami, every time we have a need for extra spending.”  Watch Clip Here.

While Congressman Melancon denounced the comments, Louisiana Republican Congressmen have stayed silent.
