VOTER SUPPRESSION SUSPECTED IN MAY 3 FEDERAL ELECTION

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Democratic Party has filed a temporary restraining order in response to mass telephone calls made election day, May 3, requesting that voters do not vote in the Federal Election for 6th Congressional District.

The calls fraudulently invoked the use of Rep. Michael Jackson’s name with the specific intent to confuse voters into believing he was behind the effort to suppress votes.

Upon confirmation that Rep. Jackson did not authorize the calls, the Louisiana Democratic Party filed the restraining order to prevent further action using Jackson’s name, according to Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington.

“It appears that a number of federal election statutes have been violated by this act of voter suppression. Our attorneys are looking at this very closely to determine further action,” said Whittington.

A copy of the petition has been attached to this release.
