Message from the Chairman
Wednesday, February 1, 2006
Dear Fellow Democrats,
I am writing today to
introduce myself as the new Chairman
of
the Louisiana Democratic Party, and to start a
conversation with you and every
Democrat across our great state about the
future of our Party.
Last year, Louisiana was ravaged by two major
hurricanes, hundreds of
thousands of Louisianians were scattered
across the country and our Party’s
finances were strained.
Some paint a pessimistic picture for our Party
in light of these challenges,
but we know the strength of our people and our
Party, and we also know the
Democratic Party’s commitment to our great
state. We know that Democratic
values are Louisiana’s values and if we stand
up for our values, Democrats
will win in 2006 and beyond.
Over the next few months, I will travel the
state and meet with Democrats from
every region and every walk of life to talk
about the future of our Party.
Not only will we talk, we will also create a
shared vision for our Party that
highlights the values that bind us, not the
issues that divide us. And, we
will stand up and not let others tell us who
we are anymore.
With November elections approaching, we will
recruit candidates to run for
Congress and statewide offices who will fight
for working families, support
public education, make healthcare more
accessible and affordable, and protect
the rights of all Americans.
We will reach out to new people, especially
young people, and engage them in
the political process. We will work to
protect the voices of displaced
residents by ensuring that they are afforded
the opportunity to participate in
upcoming elections.
My fellow Democrats, there are many
challenges, but there is also great
opportunity to build our Party from the ground
up, to spark meaningful debate
and to create a brighter future for all.
I look forward to working with you and every
Democrat across the state as we
build our Party better and stronger than ever
before.
Very truly yours,
Christopher L. WhittingtonChairman
