Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington 

 

Chris Whittington was elected Chairman of the Louisiana Democratic Party in January 2006 after years of exemplary service as the Party’s Legal Counsel, Parliamentarian, member of the Democratic State Central Committee and as a member of the Democratic Party Executive Committee.
 
Since his election, Baton Rouge attorney Whittington has worked to promote the values of leadership, justice and compassion that are the hallmark of the Democratic Party. Under Whittington’s direction, the Party recognizes Louisiana’s diversity and works to ensure that every community has a voice in the state Party.  The Democratic Party will continue to fight for working families, to support public education, to work to make healthcare more accessible and affordable and to protect the rights of all Americans.  To help achieve these goals, Chris is committed to supporting Democratic officeholders and candidates who share these principles.
 
Chris is an attorney with The Whittington Law Firm, specializing in general civil litigation, personal injury and maritime law.  He is a member of the Louisiana Association for Justice Board of Governors; the American Association for Justice; and the American, Louisiana, and Baton Rouge Bar Associations.  Chris also served on the Louisiana Court Reporters Board. 
 
In addition to his professional activities, Chris has been active in a number of community service organizations, including First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge, the Black/White Communications Taskforce of Shreveport, the Shreveport Jaycees, Junior Achievement, United Way of Northeast Louisiana, the Super Derby Festival of Shreveport/Bossier City, and the Sigma Nu Alumni House Corporation.
 
Chris received his Juris Doctorate in 1992 from Southern University Law Center and his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 1987 from Louisiana Technical University.  
 
Chris is the father of two beautiful twin daughters, Lauren and Lucy, and is married to Jo Ann Lea, who is an attorney at the Barron and Budd Law Firm.
