Senator Kennedy, I am a Kentuckian deeply concerned about the nomination of the University of Kentucky's Dr. James W. Holsinger as U.S. Surgeon General. I ask you to OPPOSE his nomination and not vote in favor of confirming him as the new head of the U.S. Public Health Service. I thought it was important for a senior U.S. Senator, as well as the chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions to hear from people in Dr. Holsinger's home state. The recent national spotlight on Dr. Holsinger's controversial views are an embarrassment to our great commonwealth. One of the most embarrassing and horrific things Dr. Holsinger did was create an "ex-gay" church in Lexington to "convert" homosexuals to heterosexuality, a practice strongly opposed and condemned by the American Psychiatric Association.
