5th INSTALLMENT OF MCCAIN VS. IOWA: MCCAIN’S “BROKEN RECORD” ON HEALTHCARE

Des Moines – Today, the Iowa Democratic Party released the 5th installment of the McCain vs. Iowa (www.mccainvsiowa.com) series focusing on Senator John McCain’s “broken record” when it comes to health care reform.

Throughout his eight years as President, George Bush has used the same, tired health care catch phrases while accomplishing nothing when it comes to meaningful health care reform. John McCain’s plan to bring reform to Washington?  Wheel out the exact same, tired health care catch phrases that have been worn out over the last 8 years.

THE BUSH / MCCAIN PLAN:

To address soaring health care costs, George Bush and John McCain TALK about medical malpractice reform, which accounts for less than two percent of health care costs.

Bush and McCain TALK about expanding community health centers, yet Bush vetoed $225 million in federal funding for community health centers,

Bush and McCain TALK over and over again about “affordable” and “available” health care, yet in Bush’s eight years as President, and McCain’s 26 years in Congress, nothing has been done to actually achieve “affordable” and “available” health care.

“Under George W. Bush, health care costs have increased 87 percent and 45 million Americans remain uninsured,” said State Senator Jack Hatch, Chair of the Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee.  “This is a crisis, yet President Bush and John McCain are too out of touch to get it, so they insist on recycling the same, stale catch-phrases instead of working across the aisle to get something done.  Health care reform needs to happen, and to do it, Washington needs new leadership.”
