Steve King, John McCain, and Amnesty
Monday, July 28, 2008
Council Bluffs – Later today, Steve King will
be hosting a regional office opening for John
McCain’s presidential campaign in Council
Bluffs. Brooke Borkenhagen, Press Secretary for
the Iowa Democratic Party, released the
following statement:
“I find it curious
that Steve King would hold an office opening
for John McCain. Steve King has been one of
John McCain’s most vocal critics on
immigration. King has called McCain an 'amnesty
mercenary' and he completely dismissed McCain
during the Iowa Caucus. Western Iowans deserve
to know one thing: has Steve King reversed his
position on immigration or has John
McCain?”
Steve King on John
McCain:
Steve King on McCain skipping
the Iowa Straw Poll: "Once the Senate announced
their amnesty bill, Giuliani and McCain had the
albatross of amnesty hung around their necks,"
said Rep. Steve King. "I've said for months you
can't win the Iowa Caucus if you support
amnesty." [The Washington Times,

Steve King called The
McCain-Kennedy Immigration Bill "Amnesty."
"[McCain] has also teamed up with Sen. Edward
M. Kennedy (Mass.), a liberal Democrat, on an
immigration bill that many conservatives
despise. 'It would have legalized and provided
a path for citizenship, which is amnesty, for
66.1 million people,' said Rep. Steve King, who
has called Kennedy and McCain 'amnesty
mercenaries.’” [The Washington Post,
