LATHAM
REMAINS SILENT ON IMMIGRATION RAID IN HIS
DISTRICT
IOWANS
IN THE
FOURTH DISTRICT DESERVE REAL
LEADERSHIP
Des
Moines – Tom Latham
continues to be silent
on the largest immigration raid in United
States
history, which took
place at the Agriprocessors meatpacking plant
in his district on May 12. Every
member of Iowa’s
congressional delegation has commented
on the raid except for Latham, who represents
Postville.
“Leadership has always been
a
challenge for Tom Latham, but failing to
comment on the Postville immigration
raid is a new low point,” said Brooke
Borkenhagen, Iowa Democratic Party Press
Secretary. “With the largest immigration
raid in United
States history happening
in their
backyard, the people of Iowa’s Fourth
Congressional District deserve
to hear from their Congressman. Iowans
in the Fourth District deserve real
leadership.”
Federal agents
raided the
Agriprocessors plant last Monday and arrested
389 workers suspected to be
illegal immigrants. The Postville raid
was the largest immigration crackdown in
U.S.
history.
Latham declined to
comment publicly
last week, according to the Des Moines
Register. [Des Moines
