2009 Session: Our Democrats did us proud
It’s a sad commentary on the state of Florida politics when you have to measure success by how effective legislators are at damage control. But that’s perhaps the best way to assess the 2009 Legislative Session. And DEC members can be proud of how Democrats in the Leon County delegation performed.
We asked our representatives and senator how they saw the Session unfold and their views on the role of Democratic activists in supporting their efforts to advocate for their constituents and all Floridians. Click on Session Wrap to see how they responded.

Redistricting: Say NO! to gerrymandering
A campaign to change the corrupt system politicians use to maintain their power is gaining momentum but it's important to keep up the pressure. FairDistrictsFlorida.org must collect 1.6 million signed petitions to get an initiative on next year's ballot to change the current system of a post-U.S. Census redrawing of districts to the advantage of the party in power -- currently the Republicans.
A local nonpartisan group that originated with our our DEC has collected some 600 petitions on its own. Click on LeonFairDistrictsLeon to get a petition if you haven't already signed one or to volunteer to help collect more signatures.
Click on on Make a Donation is you want help the state organization get its job done. It costs 10 cents to file each petition. Click on Redistricting to find out more about what at stake with this crucial issue.
