FALLON CHALLENGES BOSWELL TO SUPPORT PRIMARY WINNER

Des Moines (1/29/08) - Today, Democratic candidate Ed Fallon pledged to support whoever wins the June Democratic Primary for the Third Congressional District.  Fallon, 49, is running against Congressman Leonard Boswell, 74, and so far they are the only two in the race.  In a letter sent today, Fallon has asked Boswell to make the same pledge and support the process and party that put him in office.

Fallon believes it’s crucial to have a strong united Democratic Party behind the June 3rd nominee.  He says, “We made historic gains for the Party during the Caucuses with thousands of former independents, Republicans and first-timers joining us to support change.  We should all agree to unite behind our primary winner,” he said.

Fallon has a long history of commitment to working hard for Democrats and will continue his efforts to build a Democratic Party more in sync with its historic populist tradition.  In 2006, after losing the Democratic primary for Governor, Fallon actively supported former opponent Chet Culver.  Additionally, he says, “In 2004, I helped Dennis Kucinich and then John Kerry with their Presidential campaigns and worked on several legislative races that year as well.  In 2007, I helped Democratic city council candidates around the state, including candidates running in Clinton, Muscatine, Iowa City, Cedar Falls, and Des Moines.  Most of my time last year was spent helping John Edwards.  I want to make it clear that I’ll support whichever Democrat wins this primary and I want Congressman Boswell to make the same commitment,“  he said.

“I’m looking forward to a spirited race with Leonard Boswell, “Fallon said.  “We’ll differentiate ourselves on our priorities, voting record and issues.  I am confident that Iowans in this district are eager for new, energetic leadership that will bring enthusiasm and a progressive vision to Washington, D.C.,“  he said.
