Fallon Files Third Congressional District Nominating Petitions

(Des Moines, IA – March 3, 2008) - Today, Ed Fallon made his congressional candidacy official by submitting his affidavit of candidacy and his nominating petitions to the Iowa Secretary of State.   This enables Fallon to appear on the ballot for the June 3rd primary race against Congressman Leonard Boswell.

Fallon says he’s challenging Boswell because he has a weak record of commitment to key Democratic issues and has voted too often with George Bush and against the priorities of the American people.  Fallon says, “In the 2006 election we wanted a new direction, so we elected a Democratic House and Senate.  America needs a more progressive U.S. Congress, one that is less focused on the demands of corporate lobbyists and more interested in the needs of average Iowans,” he said.

Fallon also points out that Iowa is predicted to lose one of its congressional districts beginning with the 2012 election.  Parts of the Third District will likely be merged with Republican incumbent Tom Latham’s or Steve King’s district.  Fallon says, “If Democrats are to win, we need a Congressman now who can build a base for a tough fight in 2012.”
