Express yourself at the ballot box
Monday, May 12, 2008Des Moines Register - Letter to the editor
Thanks for reporting on May 3 that,
"Boswell Turns Down Offer for TV Debate." Ed
Fallon said yes, and U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell
said no.
The reasons given for Boswell's
refusal were inadequate time to respond to any
misinformation that might arise during the
debate and the likelihood that he would be
"tied up with congressional
business."
The real reason is that
Boswell would lose a debate on the issues. His
voting record on the environment and war issues
cannot stand scrutiny.
The Register could have reported that a
number of forum/debate invitations have been
ignored or refused by Boswell.
Some 13
organizations, in addition to KCCI and the
Register, are eager to sponsor a
debate.
There has not been one.
Democracy is denied. How do we express our
indignation and correct the wrong? At the
citizens' court of last resort - the ballot
box.
