Democrats Excited about Primary Election
Turnout
NEW CASTLE — Delaware’s
overwhelming Democratic turnout sends a clear
message that voters in the First State are
sick of the Bush Administration, and that they
want a Democratic leader with the vision this
country needs heading into the future.
About 38 percent of Democratic voters
turned out in this primary, more than doubling
the 2004 turnout percentage of 15%. What’s
even more impressive for the Democrats is that
the lead vote getter alone, Sen. Barack Obama,
received more votes in Delaware than
the entire Republican field combined.
“It’s terrific to see this enthusiasm from
Democratic voters in Delaware,”
said Party Chairman John Daniello. “These
results give us a clear indication that
Delaware
voters will unite in November and help return
the White House to the Democrats.”
From vetoing S-CHIP to his failed policies
in Iraq,
President Bush has badly neglected the needs of
our country. Delaware’s
working families literally can’t afford his tax
breaks to multimillionaires, inability to
provide affordable health care coverage, and
slashes to many important social
services. This turnout shows that
Delaware
voters are smart enough to see that all of the
Republican candidates in this race offer these
same failed policies, and they’re ready to put
an end to the wasteful spending in
Iraq
at the expense of important programs that would
help the neediest Americans.
“I believe Delaware is a
good indicator of how the rest of the country
will vote,” said Daniello. “We have a mix of
industry, economics, and racial and cultural
diversity that mirrors the country as a
whole. I’m confident Delaware will vote
Democratic in November and so will
America.”
