Real economic help for working families - great tips for talking about healthcare
Real economic help for working families.

Message of the Week from the Herndon Alliance- September 23rd

There’s a lot of talk that health care reform may have to wait until better economic times. And hard working Americans need real economic relief now. That’s why it’s more important than ever that we keep the connection between health care reform and the economy front and center in our communications.

Health care costs are a very personal economic issue for hard working American families. Securing affordable health care is second only to rising gas prices as the top economic concern of voters.

We need to remind people that fixing our broken health care system can help them reduce their medical expenses and put money back in their pockets. The strongest messages are built around the experience of middle class voters and their increasing concerns about being able to afford quality, affordable care for themselves and their families.

Dial Tested Examples:

“We need to make real improvements in the economy by making health care more affordable. People shouldn’t have to choose between filling a prescription or filling up at the gas station.”

“The economy is exactly why we need health care reform. Everyone I talk to is feeling the pinch – my neighbors, local businesses - we’re losing jobs and our industries can’t compete because of the high costs of health care.”

“I’ve been talking with people all over the state – hardworking folks who have to decide whether to pay their electric bills or their health insurance. It’s a tough economy for everyone right now and we need to make real improvements in people’s lives by making health care more affordable.”
